That is why most players join rather fix platoons over and over again, so the team can really get used to each other and become more and more powerful and effective. There are diverse roles for each player to take, since each tank model has a different set of strengths and weaknesses. Whereas one tank might be very useful in combat against slow-moving but heavily armed tanks, it might be easy prey for swift and agile hunters. This tactical element is the core of “World of Tanks” and tips the scales to decide over victory and defeat. There are about 150 different models in this game, ranging from light tanks over medium tanks to heavy and premium tanks, including also SPGs and tank destroyers from the USA, Third Reich Germany and the Soviet Union. Every individual tank can be upgraded in various ways, usually through new parts of machinery that will boost stats like agility, defense or attack power, which gives the whole game kind of a roleplay-ish feeling to it. The graphics of “World of Tanks” are clearly above average, especially considering the relatively low standard of graphics in other free to play MMOs. The gameplay and the handling of the tanks is quite intuitive and fun almost from the start. In order to participate in the raging fights of “World of Tanks”, players need to download and install a game client and register online on the game’s website. It is possible to play for free, however you can also purchase in-game currency with real money to buy upgrades and power ups that will give you advantages of several kinds over the other players. This might put some players off this game who are not willing to spend any real money, but it is still possible to really have a good time on “World of Tanks” for free, as long as you do not try to climb to the top of the high scores – which is, without real money spent, nearly impossible.
